Although I feel for Michele and Oscar Wilson, I do not understand how they fail to see that the man who killed their daughter, killed her with an illegal gun. How is making all guns illegal every where going to change anything?

  1. Exaclty, Keith!Simply put, the only people who would obey a gun ban law are people who are going to obey the law!*ALL* you do by banning guns is keep guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens. If all you accomplish is keeping guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens, the only people left with guns will be the criminals. If criminals are the only ones who are left with guns, you increase violent crime, because the criminals know that the only people who would openly oppose their criminal behavior, lack the power to actively oppose them during the act of the crime.Ban guns, increase crime. Simply put.Having served in Iraq, I can confidently say that it’s safer in a combat zone than in any major city. Why? Because you pretty much know who’s on your side, and ya’ll got automatic weapons and plenty of ammunition. :)Now, DON’T mistake me here!!Even with my combat experience, I’ve never been in a situation where I’ve had to shoot someone (I’ve been in a situation where I *could* have shot someone, but didn’t need to, so chose to not), so don’t mistake what I’m saying for advocating a “shoot ’em up” philosophy, because you’ll miss the point. The point is, that even in a war zone, the enemy, who’s stated purpose is violence against your person, is often deterred from committming that violence because of their knowledge that you can adequately defend yourself. The possession of a firearm in the hands of law-abiding citizens deters crime, because it increases the risk for the criminals to commit crime.Anyone who is going to commit a violent crime is not going to be deterred at all by a ban on guns. However, they are very likely to be deterred by a gun in the hands of a victim or witness.True, some criminals will not be deterred by anything. But that fact does not even come close to justifying the stupidity of removing the one factor that has the greatest deterring effect: guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens.
